How we work
HR support for small businesses and startups in Kent and the South East
No lock-in retainers. No auto-renewing contracts. Just practical, outsourced HR support that fits how your business actually works — blocks of hours, fixed-price startup packages, ad hoc advice, or a mix of whatever makes sense for you.
Outsourced HR support for SMEs — blocks of hours
We do not lock you into expensive, auto-renewing retainer contracts. You buy a block of hours and use them when you need to — some months you will, some months you will not, and we think that is fairer. The more hours you buy, the better the rate, and we keep you updated on usage so there are no surprises.
Your hours can cover pretty much anything HR-related: day-to-day advice, grievances and disciplinaries, contracts and handbooks, HR audits, training, change projects — you name it. You can also come to us for ad hoc advice on a specific question, one-off project work, or to have us oversee a process from start to finish.
The kind of things your hours cover
- HR queries by email, WhatsApp or phone — whenever something comes up.
- Drafting and updating contracts, handbooks and policies.
- Handling investigations, grievances and disciplinaries.
- Supporting directors with tricky conversations and exits.
- Training managers so they stop winging it.
Startup HR packages
Hiring your first employee is exciting and terrifying in roughly equal measure. We have fixed-price startup packages so you can get the essentials sorted without faffing around with generic templates or trying to work out employment law from Google. The aim is to give you a solid foundation from day one, so you can grow without storing up problems for later.
A typical startup package includes
- Tailored employment contracts for your first hire(s).
- A simple, usable staff handbook and core policies.
- Offer letter and onboarding documents.
- An HR health check call to talk through your plans and risk areas.
- A small bank of support hours for those inevitable "is this OK?" questions.
Clear pricing, a real person to talk you through it, and documents that actually match how your business works. No fluff, no scare tactics.
Employment law advice for employers — where legal and HR meet
Some issues sit at the messy crossroads of HR, the boardroom and the shareholder table. Because Electra HR is powered by Bonsai Law, we can comfortably handle the overlap between people problems and corporate structure. If something looks like it might turn contentious, you have a seamless route into regulated legal support — same people, no starting over with a new firm.
This matters more than most people realise. In growing businesses — especially in sectors like construction — HR issues frequently overlap with boardroom dynamics, director exits, shareholder tensions and commercial disputes. Having HR and legal strategy joined up from the start means fewer surprises and better outcomes.
There is also a privilege advantage. When you get HR advice from a standard consultancy, those communications may not attract legal professional privilege — which means they could be ordered for disclosure if things end up at tribunal. Because Electra HR is run by a practising solicitor through an SRA-regulated firm, there is a clear path to privilege protection that most HR consultancies simply cannot offer.
Not sure what you need? That is fine.
Get in touch and tell us what is going on. We will have an honest conversation about what makes sense for your business. No pressure, no hard sell.
